Breast cancer patients have to undergo surgery and many patients loose one breast or in some cases both. The news of cancer diagnosis is devastating in itself and then to live with a distorted body shape is a life-long adjustment. The treatment also leads to hair loss which unfortunately makes the cancer journey even more painful.
SAATHI Kit is an attempt to make this adjustment easier, and to try to bring a smile on the beautiful faces under-going breast cancer treatment. The kit will have different sets of items depending on the type of surgery. The kit will be provided free of charge to the patients from the under privileged sector referred directly by hospitals/doctors. We are working with AIIMS, RGCIRC, Dharamshilla Naryayna SUperspeciality Hospital and Max Superspeciality Hospital (Shalimar Bagh) for distribution of kits.
The kit has 4 items:
1. Weighted prosthesis (artificial breast)
2. Mastectomy bra - 2 (special bra with a pocket to keep the prosthesis)
3. Head scarf
4. Earrings (to make them feel special)
Yes to Life provides financial support to cancer patients for treatment and also for diagnostic investigations for cancer. We have supported many patients from lower income group across Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre, Max Superspeciality Hospital (Shalimar Bagh), Medanta Medicity, GTB amongst others.
Besides managing survivor support group through social media as well as meetings, Yes to Life also organizes events to support the breast cancer warriors as well as their families. The objective of such events is to increase positivity, help in post treatment phase, resolve queries, share practices for a healthier lifestyle. At one such event, 'Jashne Zindagi' held at Taj Vivanta Dwarka, in Junly 2016, Bramhakumari Sister Shivani graced the dias as chief guest and shared how spirituality can help overcome such difficult phases of life. Additionally, a panel of eminent doctors discussed about less spoken topics such as breast reconstruction, fertility etc.
Yes to Life has also participated in Pink Rahagiri, besides collaborating with multiple other NGOs working for this cause. Yes to Life was also featured in 'Let's Talk Health' series of CNN IBN, in April 2015. The NGO also organises events to spread awareness among public. 15 Frames of Courage, a picture exhibition of cancer warriors was organised at Select City Walk on 25th & 26th May, 2018, and we were able to reach out to more than 500 people for awareness.
